Man on the Moon: The End of Day
By“Kid Cudi is at the vanguard of a game-changing new generation of artists,” said Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone. “He crosses musical boundaries with an appeal that goes beyond genre, format, race, language, and culture. Cudi lives easily in the hip-hop, indie rock, pop, and R&B worlds – a diversity that shows in his innovative music and his all-embracing persona. He is a born storyteller who brings a positive, life-affirming message to his brilliant lyrical flow and compelling music. There are no clichés in what Cudi does. He is a breath of fresh air – a dynamic and important new voice, not only in the next phase of hip-hop, but as a groundbreaking trendsetter who represents the future. I am thrilled to welcome Kid Cudi into the Universal Motown family.” KID CUDI released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in July, 2008 as a free download sponsored by New York streetwear company 10 Deep, leading to an introduction and signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, and in turn, to Cudi’s co-writing of four tracks on the platinum Kanye West album 808s & Heartbreak, including the Top 5 single, “Heartless” and stepping out in a featured vocal on “Welcome to Heartbreak.” He followed this up with his first Official single; “DAY N NITE” “day ‘n’ nite” dominated with #1 rankings at multiple radio formats.

Not angry just Disappointed.
I was really looking forward to hearing this album for quite some time, having heard a lot of hype and knowing that he has been endorsed by the legendary Kanye. However I hear nothing very innovative at all. His style is definitely pushing what people expect from Hip-Pop these days but Cudi just sounds like a less hip version of Dudley Perkins. If you haven’t heard Dudley yet and you’re a fan of Cudi you should definitely hit up Dudley, possibly one of the FONKIEST men of the past couple decades.
I’ll stay tuned for future releases by Cudi because things can only get better from this, there are definitely some good tracks on here but nothing really worth purchasing.
The New Direction
Kid Cudi embodies a new element of hip hop that is much needed, especially in this time and day. Cudi is not afraid to rap about consciousness or delve into the rampant imaginings of an altered state of mind. His amazing production also makes one who listens to him really believe he is a man on the moon…roaming and searching in a new dimension of hip hop.
AMAZING!!!
Just copped the album, and I gotta say its everything I expected it to be and more. Its way over due but its here and Kid Cudi is here to stay. I hope he wins awards and goes platinum in two weeks. Anyone who’s not “Rap Only” listeners will appreciate this album so much cause he mixes it up between many genres and makes loving tracks with out of this world beats. Man on the moon sho be right for dat title. Go cop dis album and dat new KRS1 too!
Easily the worst hip-hop record ever...
Outside of “Day n Nite” and “Hyerr” there is nothing remotely listenable on this record. If this is the “new” direction of hip-hop then here’s where i’ll be taking my dirty backpack to the laundry. Cudi is not even a rapper. At best he’s talking to you stream of conscious style tone. He should probably be commended for going into deep areas that are reserved for artists such as Tori Amos. The problem is that nothing fits musically. It’s like Kanye said “dude just express yourself and screw production.” I’d be suprised if you hear anything else from this record as none of it is 20% as good as the 2 songs I named earlier. I’m sorry but the lonely loser motif is almost anti-hip-hop. As for Kanye… I totally get why he he’s tuned into a guy like Cudi. Right now he can relate. Kanye has had a life changing 12 months. From his Mom to his break-up to that bizarre auto-tuned 808 CD to Taylor Swift. If you caught the VH’1 Storytellers you can see he’s a guy running on fumes. I hope…I repeat…I hope Man on the Moon and 808 are an anomaly. Hip-Hop has at it’s roots always done 3 things. 1 – painted a vivid picture of urban/street youth. 2 – provided a good fun despite the circumstances 3 – makes you move even when it moves you. If you want deep go check Biggie, 2Pac, Scarface or early Jay-Z. For me? Kid doesn’t quite cut it. He’s sold about 3 million to this point. I wonder if his winner motif makes the music any better.
New Contender In Rap
This album was a huge suprise for me. I had only heard Day N Nite, but heard Common was backing him on this, so I decided to check the rest of this album out. This “Kid” brings alot to the table, and has a hell of a future if he can bring this kind of heat everytime out. Give this a listen for something different, meaning not every song is about bitches, guns, drugs, and cars. Thought provoking lyrics.
AMAZING 1 OF THE BEST ALBUMS I'VE EVER HEARD
I love this album, and at first I wasnt even a fan of kid cudi’s, but this album is so different and so real it’s crazy. The songs flow together and even though he may not be an A+ singer, his vocals fit the songs. That rarely happens, but some of the songs sound good with him singing a little off key, I love the beats, love the way they loop together, his cd out did Jay-z’s bp3. I will definetly purchase his next album ( and i heard he is working with my husband – pharrell)
My top 5 songs
Mr. Solo Dolo
My World
Alive
Enter Galactic
In my dreams
Great CD.
I purchased this the day it came out for $3.99 purely based on the single Day N Nite because I really liked it. I didn’t expect much but for a few bucks I figured I’d see what it had to offer. I’m really glad I did because this has become one of my favorite “rap” albums ever. I use rap loosely there because while Kid Cudi does rap some, there is a lot of singing type stuff on it too. The atmosphere of the music and production is amazing and fits the story that he is telling. I genuinely liked every song on here with some of my favorites being Soundtrack 2 My Life, My World, Day N Nite, Sky Might Fall, Alive, Cudi Zone, and Pursuit of Happiness. He also has Common narrating throughout the record to let you know what is going on and lead you into the next song. If you are expecting some hardcore rap album, don’t even bother. But if you have an open mind and listen to all music that sounds good, buy this one.
This album = Dark Side of the Moon for hip hop music
I picked this album up on a whim because of its $3.99 first day release price, and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not a fan of main stream hip hop, more the alternative stuff (the Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, etc.) but the production and overall story concept of this album was pretty interesting. The beats are sparse with a lot of spacey sounds but a lot of them are really catchy (hear “Alive”), and the interludes with Common are interesting because they narrate the story of a stoner, and all the songs fit into different acts within the album. This is the first hip hop album in a long time that is more enjoyable when you listen to the whole album in entirety, it’s a steal at $3.99.
Man On The Dark Side Of The Moon
Although I’ve always respected his obvious creative ability, I’ve never gotten into Kanye West’s music due to all of the other b.s. that goes along with Kanye. This led me to be a little apprehensive about diving into this release by Kid Cudi. But let me tell you right now: don’t make the same mistake that I made. This album is easily as rewarding as anything I’ve heard from Kanye, but without all of the melodrama and self-promotion. Sparse, compelling, a bit dark, and forward thinking… a memorable Hip Hop album, for sure.
Wow
Like most people I’m sure, I first heard about CuDi through his song Day N Night. I found it intriguing and decided to check out his mixtape “A Kid Named Cudi.” Intriguing indeed, definitely one of my favorites at the time. Specifically I wanted to hear more songs like “Embrace The Martian” and “The Prayer.” As impressed as I was by the mixtape I wasn’t prepared to be as blown away as I was by the CD. My wish was granted and presented in a way I’d never expected. Man On The Moon is the work of a musical genius, including a story being told throughout. The dedication and effort CuDi put into this debut album is apparent and I’m eagerly awaiting MOTM2: The Legend Of Mr Rager. CuDi is truly in his own genre combining Hip Hop and Electronica to perfection. This guy has seriously earned a spot as one of my all-time favorites (which is NOT an easy task). He cares about his music and his fans all while being talented beyond belief. If you have any interest in this kind of music do yourself a favor and pick it up. Like yesterday. Even if this isn’t your normal cup of tea, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
